For shinetheway: JC/Justin. "Now we're here, there's no turning back / We have each other / We have one voice."

JC is the only one who knows that Justin sings in the shower, because he doesn't do it around anyone else. It's only when JC is there that the water kicks on and five minutes later Justin's voice rings out, pitched low and smoky and sounding totally unlike the way he does when anyone else is listening, flitting from song to song as he forgets the words and switches to whatever else is running through his head.

In Colorado it's Tori Amos. "Deck the halls, I'm young again, I'm you again," and JC remembers the kid with the eyes that were far too old for his face that Justin had been when they'd first met. California brings Toad The Wet Sprocket, "pull on the borders to lighten the load, tell all the passengers we're going home," and JC remembers the quiver of energy that had run through Justin's shoulders on their first trans-Atlantic flight back home from Germany.

"Why only when I'm around?" he asked Justin once.

Justin shrugged. "It's -- I don't know. I always wanted to have one little section of the music that was just for me, but you've always been there, so it's okay when it's you."

JC thinks that he knows what Justin means. He can remember a time when Justin wasn't there, but it was a long time ago, and he doesn't remember it being very happy at all.

Justin sings in the shower. They're in Justin's house in LA when it's a song that JC thinks he might have heard once before, but he can't remember where, and Justin's voice is warm and bright across "What could I say to you except I love you, and I'd give my life for yours. I know, we are, we are the lucky ones." JC slides his hands down his hips, shucking off his sweatpants behind them, and opens the door to a faceful of steam and two handfuls of beautiful man.
