Waiting for Superman: Dios

from the Flaming Lips song of the same name

"Dios" does not, as is often assumed, mean "God", neither in Latin nor in Greek ("deus" and "qeoV" (theos), respectively). It is, instead, a Homeric epithet - that is, an adjective commonly used in the epics of Homer, for example in describing Akhilleus - roughly translatable to "shining", "noble" or "godlike". The nearest to meaning "God" that it gets is being the genitive of "ZeuV", and thus meaning "of Zeus": or perhaps being the first month in the Ancient Macedonian calendar, which could be God. You never know with these things.
