Escaflowne
When I went to save that last update, something odd happened. How shall I put this... ever see The Fly? Wierd huh?
Anyway, on with the rantings. There is a really really cool anime out there called The Vision of Escaflowne that nobody has seen. Why haven't they seen it you ask? Well, because the people who translated it but it in a very very very bad box.
Now, I ask you, in all honesty, who would actually pay around $25 for the privilage of watching the thing in THAT box? NObody, right? No, not me! I saw the first tape in a theater room at Anime Central about a month ago. It was fun, I bought the first two tapes in the dealer room afterwords.
Hey hey hey! Don't look at me that way! You see, the thing is, that box has absolutely NOTHING to do with the show. It's actually one of the coolest shows I've seen in my life. I've been spending ALL DAY looking for screen shots to prove this point. Appearently there's some kind of a conspiracy to make everyone thing this show is totally girly because all I found was sucky character pictures that wouldn't help me. Then I FINALLY found a couple decent pictures. Well, halfway decent, they don't convey the true coolness of the show...
What's this? Mecha? Why was this not mentioned on the box? Like I said, the box is terrible. Yes there's mecha, and Samurai, and humanoid dolphins, and all the mecha have capes, some have cloaking cloaks, the character design has this really unique style to it, and nobody felt like making this known to you. You're welcome. As a matter of fact, the character and mecha designs from Xenogears (which I'm sure will dominate a ranting one of these days since it's so great) are all more or less taken from Escaflowne. Go watch it. I'm tired and distracted now, so I'll stop.
The back of this hideous box: "Hitomi Kanzaki is your typical high school girl: She believes in tarot cards and dowsing, runs on the track team and has a crush on an upperclassman. But a series of mysterious visions and a column of light thrusts Hitomi onto Gaea..." Etc. etc. Ad nauseum.
