Homework Assignments

Before I get into the rant proper, allow me to say a few boring things. First off, this weekend was a bit nasty for me. Thanks to a number of factors, I achieved a rather poor state of health, and an even poorer sleep schedule. Like sleeping from 1-7 PM bad. So for something like 3 days I saw no daylight, was laying around in bed, and not getting anything done that I was planning to, like say, this rant. More importantly, the Other Page Update I owe for this week. So... I might be running late on that. Also, a certain person whose page I read on a regular basis has lately been REALLY guilt-tripping the smurf out of anyone who doesn't throw 3 bucks a month out of his page. I can see encouraging people with cash to blow to spare you a little. Heck even I do that. I can see rewarding people who do so with your best stuff too. When you hit the point where you're spending more time catering to the really generous people than the general public though, you have a pay site, with another page that pretends to have content but really just has a new ad posted for the other one every day. When you hit that point, you either need to change your ratio of pay to free material, or just make everyone pay. All you accomplish by guilt-tripping the broke masses constantly is coming off like a greedy bum.

That said, if everyone in The Trio of Terror were to get together and form a pay website of consolidated bitter jaded rantings, I'd hop on board in a second. I just wouldn't mention it here more than once in a blue moon. Come to think of it... Sharkey? Thor? Parish? Whaddya say? It'd be like Something Awful but with less bad art and hentai reviews! Anyway though, on with the ranting.

It happens all the time. I'm having a conversation with people, references start flying, and then I go and say something like "Ghostwheel could take on HAL any day!" or "I suppose it's also possible that I live in a strange town where everyone's memories are rearranged by aliens who can't stand horseshoe crabs," and everyone just stares at me with a look of incomprehension. Recently when this happened, someone suggested that I write a book of all the references I make. That would be a series of lawsuits waiting to happen, and far too long of a book. So instead, I present you a list of things I am prone to referencing, listed in roughly the order of how likely you are to already be familiar with them. If you have some weird obsession with comprehending any of the arbitrary things I'm prone to saying, feel free to start working your way down this list in your spare time. Besides, most of this stuff is pretty darn good.

This list is probably short a good number of things, but I doubt anyone plans to make it to the bottom and I'm tired, so I'll leave it at that for now. Oh, and later in the week magic pixies should come by and throw in a link to an update of another page right about here.
