In the Blink of an Eye

These quick little stories seem to be going over disturbingly well. Don't expect more after this one here for a while though. I had to reach back to when I was two years old to find the seed for this one so I doubt I can cough up another in just a week. Of course, if I haven't pointed it out to you before, this guy can. Ooh! Next month he starts in on the Lanthanides!

In other news, I recently came closer than ever before to staying up for 72 straight hours. Looked like I was going to go the distance too, but I conked out at around the 54 hour mark. Too bad. I was looking forward to official recognition of my being insane. Oh well, maybe next time.

It happened so unfathomably fast that it was over before they even felt the pain. Somehow, in the smallest fraction of an instant, a terrifying global cataclysm took place. All while Indy was giving a kiss to his rather plump girlfriend, the outer layers of everyone's flesh were suddenly peeled away. Some suffered worse than others, with huge cavities savagely carved out of their bones.

For countless years following the tradgedy, everyone searched for an explanation of what occurred, never even considering the truth. In that briefest of moments, life had sprang into being, with forms so small and metabolisms so fast, they could not be detected. These new forms of life advanced to a highly civilized socitety, mining the bodies of those who preceded them for precious metals, not even realizing they were carving into living beings. Eventually, this new race left for the stars, bringing an end to the pain almost as quickly as it began.

As an interesting side note, upon the brain cell of a respected philosopher of this ultra-fast race, a grand and glorious civilization once sprang forth and ended in cataclysmic devastation, causing the old man a fatal aneurism. Not such a great loss in the grand scheme of things really. It's all just a matter of perspective.
