Theatrical Anime

Before I begin, I DID eventually succeed in uploading the disturbing Sailor Unicron picture. It's going to be at the bottom of today's rant, so if you don't want to be really freaked out, just don't look.

Now then, as some of you may know, over the next year or so, we are appearently getting two anime movies in theaters in this country. Yippee. The first is going to be Mononoke Hime, which is by Haiyo Miyazaki, who by the way looks disturbingly similar to me.

Well, you don't know what I look like, but trust me, almost exactly like that. Except I shave, and my hair's not totally gray yet. The creepy part is I am 0% Japanese and at least 1/3 his age (by my reckoning). Anyway, the movie, which will be PG-13 will have some really impressive voice actors when it comes out this October (October 1999 if you're looking at this a few years from now or something). Voice actors like Gillian "Skully" Anderson, Carmen Dias, Minnie Driver, and Billy Bob Thornton. Weird huh?

The other thing we're getting is the new Vampire Hunter D movie. As you may know, it's by Yoshitaka "water colored-hermaphrodite" Amano, of Squaresoft closeup fame. I have heard conflicting reports of it being a prequel, a sequel, or a remake, but sequel seems most likely. Anyway, appearently they changed everything about it, particularly the gross drawing style. I was therefore a little concerned that they might have taken out the best character in the game. I refer of course to D's talking hand. Luckily, I found officially documented evidence that it's still there.

Personally, I think the old hand was more uh... "cute". The new one probably won't have the voice of Grumpy Smurf. Also, notice how now D looks kinda like an anemic girl (or Alucard from Symphony of the night)? That's because Amano's getting more swing you they went closer to his original art. He always draws weird watercolored pictures of skinny albinos with weird clothes that ALWAYS look like girls (Duran from Kartia is MALE). Some people hate it, some people like it, I like it in certain contexts (FF6- Terra with blond hair, bad, Kartia, good).

and now...

the picture I threatened you with...

last chance to turn back...

BEHOLD!

The dreaded... Sailor Unicron!

(My sincere appologies to the original artists)
