Perfect Blue

Synopsis

A low profile pop singer decides to become an actress and is soon drawn into a world of madness and murder where reality and fantasy begin to blur.

My Opinion

Perfect Blue is most likely the only place on this site you will ever see the full nudity icon, and unfortunately, the scene which merits it is the pivotal moment of the film. It tends to go something like this. Someone recommends Perfect Blue to you. You start watching, it establishes a little mood, you say "I hope they're not trying to make it a surprise who the killer is," you start to get slightly bored, and then about halfway in, you hit a scene which disgusts you and causes you to believe the person who recommended it is some sick freak who considers cartoon nudity the most profound thing in the universe. At this point, you can either stop watching in disgust, or you can stay in your seat and watch as the movie actually gets rolling and becomes and extremely engrossing and thought provoking experience veering just enough into the surreal to keep things interesting without going into total trip-out land.
