If you are reading this, one would assume you have some intent to render the characters in a style far more exacting than my own. What follows are some notes on what these characters would look like were I to have sufficient skill, and hopefully what they will look like in later issues.
Cheiral Engotan |
Cheiral is the central character of Anecrophilia. As she is the daughter of a Greater Demon Lord, it would be safe to assume that if her birth was even possible in a less silly reality, she would have grown up to be an evil succubus, using her supernatural beauty and natural magical aptitude to terrorize the world. As is however, Cheiral is about as far from this as possible. She has an excessively positive outlook on life, refuses to judge anyone on appearences, and considers zombies to be the pinacle of beauty. As such, she considers her own appearence (one of supernatural beauty by the standards of the average human) to be quite hideous. Build: Fairly average I'd think. I use Cheiral as a baseline for figuring the heights of other characters. Perhaps some time in the future once everyone's proportions are finalized I'll have someone work out everyone's specific measurements for those who obsess over such things. Face: There are two important facts about Cheiral's face that really don't come through in my current style. First are her eyes. The irises are bright pink, with cat-like pupils. As with cats, they can expand and contract dramatically from a vertical slit to an exceptionally wide circle depending on the lighting and mood. It's a reasonable assumption that her eyes may glow red under certain circumstances, as it runs in her father's side of the family, but thus far I've never seen it. The second fact concerns her nose. Specifically, that she doesn't have one. There is a small amount of vestigial cartilage where her nose would be causing a slight protrution, and a pair of imperceptibly small nostrils, but at a glance, there isn't a thing between her eyes and mouth. This may explain why the smell of rotting flesh doesn't seem to bother her at all. Hair: Cheiral has a huge mane of thick bright green hair. Her hair is green due to being half-demon, rather than an anime style indication of her personality, and has never been cut nor washed since she was five years old in an attempt to become more like a zombie. Unfortunately for her, her supernatural beauty prevents it from becoming as corpse-like as she desires. Clothing: Cheiral wears a simple dark grey robe with gold trim, the traditional garb of Necromancers. Her shiny black cape is also a mark of her magical ability, and her traditional travelling ensemble is capped off with a pair of black boots. What if anything she has on under her robe I can't say. I'm far too polite to ask, and she never seems to change out of it. |
Resphee Mozet |
Resphee comes from a country where everyone is overwhelmingly beautiful and must wear skimpy costumes. She is decidedly displeased with this state of events. So much so that she entered into a pact with Satan just to keep people's hands off her. Build: Resphee has the sort of unbalanced build one normally sees only on the covers of fantasy novels. She's about half a head shorter than Cheiral without her hat. Face: Resphee's lips are bright red and shiny. This is the result of enchantment placed on her country and not lipstick as one might assume. Her fingernails match for what it's worth. Hair: Resphee's hair is short blond and wavy. Again, the color does not reflect her personality per se. Her prefered hairstyle is to cut her hair in an assymetrical fashion leaving it a bit longer on the left than the right, with a single curl left dangling between her eyes. Clothing: Resphee has a wide assortment of skimpy costumes in various colors and styles, but she generally prefers her ultra-conservative (by Alorite standards) blue costume, as it matches her hat. Her five pentagrams (there's clasps on her wrists and ankles in addition to the prominent necklace) are to denote the brand of magic she practices, much like Cheiral's robe. The giant floppy hat she just thinks looks cool. |
Blinky |
Blinky is Cheiral's familiar. He's also undead. In life, Blinky was a carnivorous flying sphere covered in eyestalks. For the most part that's still true, but he no longer needs to eat, his flesh is sloughing off in large clumps, and after being magically linked to Cheiral, he has taken on the demeanor of a happy little puppy. Cheiral considers Blinky to be the absolute pinnacle of cuteness. Build: Blinky is roughly twice as wide as a human head, roughly spherical, and has four prehensile eyestalks spaced evenly apart ringing his face. Face: Blinky has one large central eye in roughly the center of his face, and a mouth under that. He has a bit of a drooling problem, much to the horror of anyone but Cheiral that he may lick affectionately. Hair: It may appear that Blinky has small clumps of fur dangling from him in places, but this is actually a combination of decaying flesh and a sort of moss. As time goes on, this will likely begin to drop off completely, exposing his skull. Clothing: As cute as it would be to put a little hat on Blinky, his top stalk would make it rather difficult. Therefore, Blinky remains a nudist. |
Cheiral's Father |
|
Cheiral's father is the Greater Lord of Abyssal Despair from the 8th Circle of Agonizing Misery. When he isn't working however, he's a shockingly nice and easy-going sort of fellow. Build: Cheiral's father is roughly 100 times as tall as the average human, has an odd angularity to his entire body, a spade-tipped tail, and black horns jutting out of all sorts of strange places. Face: Cheiral's father's eyes are glowing green orbs floating freely in the center of his eye sockets, his horns are curled in a fashion similar to a corkscrew, and there is no distinction between where the edges of his mouth end and his fangs begin. Hair: What hair? Clothing: Cheiral's father, like most demons, is a bit of a nudist. He owns some clothing which he wears on special occassions, but I'd rather not get into what at this point. |
Cheiral's Mother |
|
I don't have much to say about Cheiral's mother. She clearly has what can be considered a rather strange taste in men, and it doubtlessly shocked her family when she got engaged. Build: Cheiral takes after her mother physically in a lot of ways. They have roughly the same height and weight. Face: Cheiral's mother has green eyes and doesn't tend to wear any makeup. Hair: Cheiral's mother has long orange hair in two braids, with bangs and those odd dangling clumps in front of one's ears. Clothing: Cheiral's mother tends to wear simple peasant clothing despite being wealthy enough to afford otherwise. |
Some Notes on Couples |
|
One of the first things any fan of anything is going to do is take a look at the characters and start pairing them off into romantic couples. Now, that's all well and good but let me state for the record that if you start doing so with any of the principle characters from Anecrophilia, your couplings have absolutely no basis in reality. Cheiral flat out has no interest in the whole love scene, Resphee's is too disgusted with all the people drooling over her, and she's in a marriage of convenience besides. Ceolf is strictly interested in the ladies, Priesty took a vow of chastity, and even if Squid-head did date outside his species, it would end in tears and empty skulls. Really, the only character who isn't clearly out of the game is Blinky, but let's be honest, the only person who could possibly love a dead ball of rotting flesh covered with eyestalks is Cheiral, and that's a strictly platonic sort of thing. Cheiral's parents of course are happily in love, but they're minor characters at best. |
All that said, feel free to throw whatever images your sick and twisted minds come up with my way (assuming there's nothing dirty going on), and I'll probably throw'em up in a little gallery. Yes, even if you send me some mindblastingly wrong watercolor painting of Cheiral and Resphee holding hands in a field of flowers. I'll twitch in mental pain, but I'll throw it up.
