(Scene: Out on the steps of Budehuc Castle, where Estella is lounging in the shade, waiting for the return of her apprentice from his bath. She raises an eyebrow as not only Rody emerges from the manor, but several other young Fire Bringer recruits, who all look annoyed. Rody simply looks nervous as he opens his mouth to sing...)

Rody:
Excuse me, Miss Estella,
Could you please tell me why
All of these other fellas
Are telling me you lie?
They say that you're a phony,
They say that you're obscene.
Holy smokes - how can they be so mean?

Hugo, Little Viki, Kidd, Louis, Melville:
Gee, Lady Estella, we're very upset;
You never tell it straight and fibs are that all we get.
And Rody believes you
Are telling the truth -
So we will offer him some proof!

Rody:
Give me proof!

Hugo, Little Viki, Kidd, Louis, Melville:
Give him proof, give him proof,
Give him sure, sound proof!
If we can, we'll offer him some proof!

Hugo: And we've got plenty.

Kidd: Who wants to start?

Little Viki: I'll go first.

Little Viki:
One day while Miss Estella
Was soaking in the bath,
She told me such a story
I couldn't help but laugh.
This woman claims that Hallec's

(Chris steps out from just inside the door where she was watching, blushing.)

Chris:

I try to trust our soldiers, and I tried to trust you.
But Lucia confirmed that your story's contrived -
It seems that Fubar is alive.

Hugo:
He's alive!

Hugo, Little Viki, Kidd, Louis, Melville:

He is quite alive,
Fubar's undeniably alive!

Hugo: I can't believe she'd even joke about something like that!

Little Viki: Indeed, that's a terrible thing to say.

Kidd: You should hear what she told me about Rody!

(Rody looks more concerned.)

Rody:
If Hallec's no arachnid,
And Fubar's not a fake,
Can I still train my magic
By swimming in the lake?
I'm only an apprentice,
Don't mean to second-guess -
Goodness gracious - what an awful mess!

Louis:
Yes! Lady Estella, you're kind of a jerk -
You lie to your apprentice, who does really hard work.
I dare say you've played him - your tongue, it is forked.
And he can't help being a dork!

Rody:
I'm a dork?

Hugo, Little Viki, Kidd, Louis, Melville:
He's a dork, he's a dork,
He's a real big dork!
Rody's nice, but totally a dork!

Melville: Uh, no offense Rody, but you have to be pretty gullible to believe all this stuff.

Louis: But we're still your friends!

Melville: Yeah, you can count on us to tell it like it is!

(Rody thinks it over some more.)

Rody:
Please tell me, Miss Estella,
I'd like to understand -
Does magic truly increase
When buried in the sand?
It's not that I don't trust you,
I just want them to see -
Sadie's teeth! You wouldn't lie to me!

Melville:
See? Lady Estella, you're being so cruel!
This boy sincerely trusts you and you make him a fool.
And he needs your guidance more than I can say -

Rody:

Hugo, Little Viki, Kidd, Louis, Melville:

He's so really obviously gay!

Little Viki:
So Hallec's not a spider.

Hugo:
And Fubar's not a fake.

Louis:
You can't train water magic
By swimming in the lake.

Kidd:
And Rody's not a kappa.

Melville:
Although he's still quite queer -

(The kids except for Rody all sink to their knees, pleading, as the music swells dramatically.)

Hugo, Little Viki, Kidd, Louis, Melville:
Estella, please confess and make it clear...!

Oh, Lady Estella, don't ruin our hope -
We want to help poor Rody become less of a dope.
So Lady Estella, please say something true...

(Estella eyes the lot of them, shrugs, and points Rody to his broom as the music pauses.)

Estella: Rody, why don't you return to your training? Focus on the broom - it will clear your mind of all outside, untruthful influences.

(Rody nods in cheerful relief and goes back to his "training" amidst the shocked stares of the other kids.)

Hugo, Little Viki, Kidd, Louis, Melville:
