Give and Take
Ginji was fast asleep, but he was wakened easily enough by the sudden movement of the couch cushions, heaving beneath him as someone crawled over the top of him. Groggy as he was, he caught the scent of cigarettes and something else, something he couldn't identify outside of the fact that it was the scent of Ban, and immediately he knew who it was pulling back his blanket. Far more puzzled than bothered, he rubbed his eyes and yawned. "...Ban-chan...?"
"Shh," Ban whispered to him, wedging himself between the back of the couch and Ginji. "No need to get up or anything."
Ginji moved regardless, turning onto his side and scooting almost to the edge of the couch to give Ban more room. It was his turn, but if Ban really wanted to share for some reason, that was okay... kind of uncomfortable, but okay. "What are you doing?" he whispered back.
"My shoulder's acting up." Ban pulled the blanket back over the two of them, settling down against Ginji's back. "Sleeping on the floor just makes it more stiff."
"Oh..." Ginji felt Ban's hand come to rest on his waist casually, and he wasn't sure if it woke him up further, or relaxed him. "Well, I can sleep on the floor tonight instead, and we can just switch tomorrow too - if your shoulder's feeling better, I mean..."
He started to get up, but Ban's hand tightened on his waist, pulling him back down immediately. "Lie back down. I'm not going to cheat you out of your night on the couch. If I'm ruining it for you, you can sleep here tomorrow too, but you don't have to leave."
Ginji stopped where he was, lying back against Ban. It was kind of uncomfortable, maybe, to have two people lying on the narrow couch, but not enough so that he really had to move. And besides, he knew Ban well enough to see now that there was more to it than a stiff shoulder.
Turning over to face Ban, he slid an arm beneath him, then wrapped the other around his back, pulling Ban against him, to rest his unkempt brown hair against his shoulder. Ban responded in kind, loosely wrapping his right arm over and around Ginji instead of simply resting it on his waist. "Good thinking," he mumbled into Ginji's chest. "It'll be harder to fall off the side like this."
His voice was already growing fuzzy with sleep, and Ginji nodded. "Yeah... good night, Ban-chan."
Ban didn't respond, except to yawn against Ginji's chest again before apparently nodding off entirely. Though not uncomfortable, Ginji remained awake for a bit longer, wondering what really had driven Ban to share the couch with him. Maybe it had a nightmare, or a worry, or a memory. Though Ban said nothing, Ginji was too aware of him to know he didn't have weaknesses, or to ignore them when they surfaced - even if Ban was too proud to admit to them.
