------ Note: The hero's name is "Tir" in this script, because apparently that's his name in the Suikoden novels. ...Just ignore the fact that if you name him Tir and try to use that file in the second game, his name will end up "TcDohl". Silly bugs. ------ Konami presents SUIKODEN Please tell me the answer is fate unchangeable? Even at his most powerless, man's existence is never without meaning. *****SCENE ONE***** (Gregminster Palace. Tir is standing in a small room with his father, Teo.) Teo: What's the matter, Tir? Are you nervous? Don't worry, the audience will be finished quickly. Just be the way you always are. The Emperor is stern, but there's nothing to be afraid of. (A woman approaches the doorway to the small room.) Woman: Master Teo, Master Tir. The Emperor will receive you now. Please come this way. (She leads the way towards the throne room, and the two McDohls follow, pausing when she does before the entrance.) Woman: Teo McDohl, General of the Imperial Army, and his son Tir McDohl, Here for an audience with the Emperor. (Teo enters, followed by Tir. Guards line the walkway. Windy is standing to the Emperor's right, while ?? is standing to his left.) Barbarosa: Welcome, Teo. How are things? Teo: Much as they were when we fought together in the War of Succession, Your Highness. Barbarosa: Impressive words. Do you not agree, Windy? Windy: Indeed, they are the words of a great general. Barbarosa: Teo, I am sure you are aware of the troubling activity in the north. Would you be willing to travel there to protect the border? Minister: Our disputes with the United City-States of Jowstone are complicated, but with General McDohl in charge, we can rest assured. Barbarosa: My beloved sword Prakk has brought me luck on countless occasions. I would like you to have it. Take it with you. (Teo advances to accept the sword from Barbarosa.) Teo: Thank you, Your Highness. I, Teo, swear not to disappoint you. Barbarosa: You have my blessings. Good luck, Teo. (Teo steps back, allowing Tir to step forward and stand before the king.) Barbarosa: So you're Teo's boy Tir. Quite an impressive little countenance. Listen, Tir. Would you be willing to give the Empire a helping hand while your father is protecting the northern border? Tir *Yes, Your Highness. *I don't wanna. /---------- Tir: I don't wanna. Barbarosa: Ha, ha! Like father, like son. Listen, Tir. Someday, you will follow the path of your own choosing. But for now, you have a great deal to learn from me. Plenty of time for freedom later. ------------ Tir: Yes, Your Highness. Barbarosa: You already resemble your father. I shall look forward to seeing you grow into manhood. /------------- Teo: Thank you for your kind words, Your Highness. Minister: Commander Kraze of the Imperial Guard will be Master Tir's superior. (Windy approaches Tir, and he turns to her.) Windy: What an attractive young man you are. Good luck to you, Tir. Teo: We had better be going, Your Highness. Barbarosa: I'm relying on you, Teo. And Tir, I hope your efforts will surpass your father's. (Tir and Teo leave the throne room, pausing outside.) Teo: Let's go. *****NPCs***** (outside throne room) Woman: Why Master Tir. Was Lady Windy at the audience too? I've heard that she bears a close resemblance to Lady Claudia. He still mourns her passing. Guard: The audience is over. Be off... I mean, please be on your way. Phew! Got that one right. Guard: The audience with the Emperor is over. Please depart. (in another small room) Kasim Hazil: Ah, Teo. It looks like you've brought a fine son into this world. I envy you. Teo: You're embarrassing me, Kasim. (If you talk to him again) Kasim Hazil: Is it my turn yet? Considering that I, Kasim Hazil, am one of the Five Great Generals, this is a terribly long wait. *****PLOT***** (On the lower floor, Teo halts Tir in the hallway by the entrance to another small room.) Teo: This is Kraze's room. You'll be reporting to him starting tomorrow. Go and introduce yourself. (Tir enters the room, and goes to speak with the man behind the desk.) Kraze: Heh. So you're Teo's boy. What's your name? Tir? I couldn't care less if you're the son of a great general. You'll get no special treatment here, understand? Now go on home. Work begins tomorrow. Report here first thing in the morning. (If you talk to him again) Kraze: Are you still here? I told you to go home, didn't I? Heh. Work begins tomorrow. Don't be late! Understand? (Tir returns to his father in the hallway.) Teo: Did you introduce yourself? I must admit I'm quite surprised that you've been assigned to such a weakling, but... Well, let's get going. Gremio must be worried sick. *****NPCs***** (In room across from Kraze's) Man: Say, you're General Teo's son! How you've grown. Recruit: Ha ha! Just look at these shiny boots. I've dreamed of joining the Imperial Guard since I was a little kid. Man: Hey kid, where did you come from? The Emperor is upstairs, and Commander Kraze's room is next door. *****PLOT***** (Tir follows his father out through the palace gates, into the city.) ------------- [Gregminster] ------------- (Tir and Teo walk past the fountain in the city square, turning into a house just to the east. Upon entering, Gremio rushes in to meet them from a back room.) Gremio: Welcome home, Young Master. H-h-how did it go? Was everything OK? Were you nervous in front of the Emperor? I was soooo worried. But I guess everything went fine. Teo: You shouldn't worry so much, Gremio. (Gremio turns to Teo in surprise.) Gremio: Oh! Master Teo... I didn't notice you at all. Teo: Didn't notice me? Good grief. The only one you seem to care about is Tir. (Gremio turns back to Tir.) Gremio: Sorry, Master Teo. By the way, Young Master, Ted is here to congratulate you. Oh my god! The stew! The stew! (Gremio rushes off to the kitchen again, as Teo leaves.) *****NPCs***** (Pahn is sleeping in his room.) Pahn: Zzzzzzzzzz... Tir: *Scare him. *Leave him alone /----- Tir: Scare him. (BOING sound effect O_o) Pahn: Yikes! What the... oh, it's you Young Master. Home already? I was waiting for supper and fell asleep. By the way, how was your audience with the Emperor? ----- Tir: Leave him alone Pahn: Zzzzzzzzzz... Hey Gremio! Where's my supper? Say, it's Young Master. Back already? How was your audience with the Emperor? /----- (If you talk to him again...) Pahn: I think I'll take another nap before supper. Young Master, you must be tired too. How about a nap before supper? (On the bookcase...) "Martial Arts Handbook", "Talk With Your Fist", "Pahn's Diary". Pahn: Y-young Master! You shouldn't look at my books without permission. (Upon entering Cleo's room, she rushes forward to meet Tir.) Cleo: Young Master, how many times do I have to tell you? Please knock before entering the room of a lady. Oh well, you can be forgiven if it's my room, I suppose. So how was your audience with the Emperor? Were you nervous? (If you talk to her again...) Cleo: You must be tired after such a long day. Why don't you go to your room and rest? (On the bookcase...) "Cleo's Diary" Cleo: Young Master, you shouldn't be looking at a woman's belongings. (In the kitchen, Gremio has his back turned, as he's working on the stew...) Gremio: My hands are full right now. This is the most important step when you're making a stew. Tir: *Pull his ears *Tickle him *Leave him alone /----- Tir: Pull his ears (BOING! sound effect. Gremio jumps and turns around.) Gremio: Young master! That hurts! Please stop! ----- Tir: Tickle him (BOING! sound effect. Gremio jumps and turns around.) Gremio: Wha... s-stop, please. Hee hee. Ha ha. Young Master! Ha ha... Stop! Please! ----- Tir: Leave him alone Gremio: Dinner will be ready soon. Please rest in your room until I call. /----- (When Tir goes upstairs, Ted rushes out of the dining room to meet him.) Ted: I heard the news, Tir! You met the Emperor, didn't you? Tell me all about it. Please. Let's go up to your room, OK? Tell me all about the Emperor, right now! [Ted joins the entourage!] (Outside the house, around Gregminster...) Man by McDohl house: You there! What are you doing around here? This is the home of the Imperial General Teo McDohl. W-w-what? You're General Teo's son? E-excuse my rudeness, sir! Man outside rune shop: Have you ever heard of rune crystals? You can have them attached to you by a runemaster. That gives you magical powers. Woman by city entrance: I'm from a village to the east called Rockland. I seem to have lost my way. Could you please tell me where Master Milich lives? What! Is-is that it? That ugly... I mean... unique house. Th-thank you very much... Old man by fountain: It's so beautiful here. Gregminster was virtually destroyed during the Seven Year War of Succession. Yet now it's so beautiful. All thanks to the Emperor. Bless him! Bless him! Man north of fountain: Wow. So this is Gregminster, the Imperial capital. Sure is different from my home town in the boonies. Gentleman north of fountain: With so many country bumpkins wandering about, the capital is going down the drain. Don't you agree? Guard in southwest corner: They say there are excellent blacksmiths in Lenankamp. A friend of mine brags about the blade he had sharpened there. Maybe I should go there to have my sword sharpened. Man in front of appraisal shop: Take a look at this urn. Heh heh heh. I didn't think it was worth anything because it was left behind by a furball. But when I had it appraised, wow! It turned out to be a Celadon urn. Lucky for me. (In Sonya's house...) Maid: Ever since she heard about General Teo's northern assignment, Lady Sonya has not looked well. (Teo is standing with Sonya further inside.) Sonya Shulen: Tir, after tomorrow, you won't be able to see your father for a while. Better spend time with him while you can. Teo: Don't be a fool, Sonya. Tir, you're not taking this seriously either, are you? Teo: Tir? I must speak with Sonya. You go on home first. (On the bookshelf...) "Sonya's Diary" I heard that General Teo is going north. Since he is a soldier it's only natural, but still my heart is bleeding. I hope he returns unharmed. (On the stove...) Warm stew (In the weapon/armor shop...) Man: I wouldn't shop here if I were you. You'll get cheated. Item store clerk: Shut up! If you're getting in the way of my business, get out! Get out of here! (Inside house west of square...) Gentleman: I'll tell you something interesting. Do you know what rune crystals are? They contain incredible power. (On stove...) Spicy stew (In Milich's house...) Servant: What is Master Milich up to? If he doesn't hurry, he'll miss his audience with the Emperor. Master Milich! It's time to go! (In Milich's wardrobes...) Big feathered hat Lame tuxedo Hemmed red cape Orange tights Rainbow-colored pantaloons Green suspenders Floral shirt Leopard patterned cape Pink boots Checkered beret Fruit-printed tie Fine fur cape with sapphires See-through body suit [Scripter's note: ...] Striped slacks Sea otter T-shirt [Scripter's note: ......] Negligee [Scripter's note: I should stop transcribing this. Really.] Very long hand-woven scarf Black-and-red half coat Peppermint green blazer (Upstairs) Milich Oppenheimer: Hmmm, this outfit is nice, of course, but the colors on this one match better. Young man, which do you like? .......... Say, aren't you Teo's boy? Of course, you're Tir. I was called by the Emperor, and of course I must show him my exquisite taste in clothes. (House south of Milich's) Woman: I miss those days seven years ago. The Emperor was a wonderful person back then. But now... (On the stove) Hot stew Ouch! (Inside Inn/Tavern) Marie: Come in, come... say, if it isn't Master Teo's boy! What's up? If you want a rest, you should go home. You're a bit young to be in here, aren't you? Man: Oh, you've come at the perfect time. You can help us decide. Decide what? Who do you think is the most powerful of the Six, I mean Five Great Imperial Generals? Guard: Lady Sonya Shulen, Commander of the Imperial Navy. Not only a swordswoman, a magician as well. And beautiful to boot. Lady Sonya is the greatest. Don't you agree? Guard: General Kasim Hazil, the best swordsman among the five. The greatest swordsman is the greatest general, of course. Man: I think General Milich, the Flower General, is powerful too. Top-class expertise in swordsmanship and magic, and always so well-dressed. Guard: Who's the greatest general? General Kwanda Rosman, of course. He's defended Emperor Barbarosa countless times. General Kwanda is a truly great soldier. I admire him. (Upstairs) Man: So this is the Imperial Capital of Gregminster? It's worlds away from the poor village I was raised in. Man: Capital, my foot! Living the high life all by themselves on our hard-earned taxes! Man: Hey, how about accompanying me on a journey? Travel is fun. Unseen vistas, new friends, and romance. Yeah, let's go! Well then... Now that we're fellow travelers, I'd be grateful if you'd pay my bill for me. *****PLOT***** (As Tir and Ted enter Tir's room, Gremio heads past into the dining room.) Ted: Please let me join your entourage. I owe so much to Master Teo, who adopted me when I was an orphan, and I want to return the favor. OK? (Cleo and Pahn head past into the dining room.) Tir: *Of course *Gee, I dunno. /----- Tir: Gee, I dunno. Ted: Please, I want to work for the Imperial Guard too. Oh please.. Tir: Gee, I dunno. Ted: Oh, come on. I thought we were friends. Tir: Gee, I dunno. Ted: Hey, stop giving me a hard time. You're really going to let me join you, right? I know what's on your mind. /----- Tir: Of course. Ted: Great! I knew you were a good friend! Now for more important matters. What kind of man was the Emperor? And tell me about Windy, the Court Magician. Was she beautiful? Come on, tell me everything. (They talk for a long time.) Ted: I see. I am sure I would like to see Windy in person. Hey Tir... I really don't know how to tell you this, but... ummm... (He looks away. Teo comes upstairs and joins the others in the dining room.) Ted: Say Tir there's something I want to tell you. Can you keep a secret? Can you promise not to tell anyone what I'm about to tell you? (Gremio calls from the dining room.) Gremio: Young Master! Ted! Supper is ready! Ted: Hey, it's time to eat. Let's go, Tir. We can talk some other time. (Tir follows Ted into the dining room.) *****Optional***** Ted: Gremio, you've prepared a fine meal, as usual. This is why I love visiting Tir's house. Gremio: Young Master!! Hurry up and take your seat. Your food will go cold. Pahn: Wow, this is a feast! My stomach's growling. Cleo: Young Master, it'll be some time before you can eat with Ted again. I suggest you enjoy this time together. Teo: What's the matter? Take your seat. *****PLOT***** (Tir sits down.) Teo: Are the glasses filled? Attention, everybody. Tomorrow morning, I must travel north. Tir will be responsible for the household in my absence. I'd like you all to give him full support. (He pauses.) Teo: Gremio. Gremio: Y-y-yes... sir. Teo: You've taken care of Tir since he was a baby. Thanks to your efforts. He's grown into a fine youth. I'm grateful to you. Gremio: But Sir, I, this is my job, an-and besides, serving Young Master is a pleasure for me, too... Teo: I'm glad to hear it. I hope you continue to watch over him. Cleo, Pahn, I'm counting on you two as well to help and protect Cleo: Yes, Master Teo. Pahn: Of course, Sir. Leave it to us. Teo: And Ted, I hope you'll always be a good friend to Tir. Ted: I'd do so even if you said otherwise, Sir. Right, Tir? Teo: Enough talk. Let's eat before the food gets cold. Let's raise our glasses. (Everyone does so.) Teo: To my son. To the Empire. (That night, while Tir is in bed, Teo and Gremio go to his room, watching him sleep.) Teo: It looks like I won't be seeing your face for a while, Tir. (Gremio turns to him.) Gremio: Shall I wake him up? Teo: No, let him sleep. It's not as if we'll never meet again. ... Gremio, take good care of him, won't you? Gremio: I will, Master Teo.
