Saturday, July 20 2002 - Shoujocon

It has to be mentioned somewhere that on the way down, Andrea was highly amused by the signs reading "CHEESEQUAKE". Stopping at "GREAT EGG" to check the map didn't exactly help matters, and in fact got her to thinking that New Jersey must be the home of the best omelettes in the world. But... yes, con.

And the first picture sucks.
We got turned around while on the road, but running into D almost instantly upon entering the con sort of made up for lost time. Yeah, you can't see our faces, but you can see the costumes. This was the beginning of the Worst Crossover Fanfic Ever, featuring Terra, Müllenkamp, Yuna, and Priss. At lunch, Keri provided us with a Mary Sue as well, and all of us lovely women simpered over...

Irvine!
Being completely in character, W2 came to the rescue of the confused young ladies who had just arrived, and showed Mullenkamp where she could have her tattoo drawn on for $1. Irvine was glomped along the way (and many times later also) by Selphie. I don't think we knew her, but she was cute. And very Selphie.

Bad fanfics waiting to happen...
Selphie, Irvine, and Terra are joined by the Yuna that was accompanying Selphie. Later on, things got even more weird when we heard the infamous "Sydney voice" from Irvine's lips. Uhm... eep.

And Andrea told her dad before she left that she wouldn't come back with a tattoo.
Having the Rood temporarily, however, made her seriously reconsider the idea. In the background is the kind woman who worked from the low-quality blown-up printout to grant Müllenkamp the Rood.

Tami finds a piano.
Tami has been known to find pianos in the most unlikely places, wherever she goes, and of course this means they have to be played. So she sat down and began the Final Fantasy Prelude, and immediately a crowd gathered around to listen and request songs. For awhile, Terra was playing Terra's Theme.

Hey, that's not the battle theme!
A few mages decided to start fighting each other near the piano. Gotta love that FF music influence.

Final Fantasy harmonies
Undoubtedly one of the high points of the day was Terra, Irvine, and Yuna harmonizing on Billy Joel. Surreal, but beautiful. W2 was one of those gathered around the piano, and began to harmonize on And So It Goes, after which D joined in and they sang Piano Man as well. Since Müllenkamp is no singer, she became the photographer. And danced, because she's Müllenkamp. But since she was photographing, there are no photographs of that.

Two Terras?
Green hair, or blonde? Both work, as seen here. Freakily enough, both Terras used the exact same material for the dress. Apparently the other Terra (who was accompanied by a Shadow, sadly we did not get his pic) had her costume made by a store, however, while we made Tami's Terra costume in the space of about a day, with a sewing machine that hated our guts. We're a bit proud of the fact it turned out as well as it did (which isn't half bad at all, frankly).

Exchanging the standard fire for water...
The fountain in front of the hotel seemed like a nice place to take pictures... that, and Müllenkamp was freezing her butt off inside in the air conditioning.

Terra's image shot
Terra is one of Tami's oldest muses, and the first game character she really fell in love with, so it was very special to get to be her for a day.

Müllenkamp takes off the glasses
Aside from the headpiece having been kind of messed up since lunch, and Andrea needing to gain about 5-10 pounds the way a lot of cosplayers need to lose 5-10 pounds... not bad. Though Müllenkamp is a fairly recent fascination of Andrea's, it was nice to be her for awhile - it justifies using her name on LiveJournal.

Müllenkamp and Terra
One of the favorites in the reel - we both look quite happy, which is only fitting, considering what a good time we were having. Unfortunately, this was about the point at which we lost track of D, W2, and the others we'd been wandering around with for most of the afternoon, and we didn't get a chance to say goodbye to everyone before we left. However, we did get to experience an absolutely hilarious panel on adult fanfic... there is no group of people with which it would have been more awesome to have such a discussion with. Seriously.

Random Cosplayer section!

Don't know who they are... but nice outfits.

One of the couple Rinoas.

Puchiko from Di Gi Charat!

Dejiko also!

Vash allows Müllenkamp to take his picture...
...So long as he's allowed to take a picture of her in response. Oh, that humanoid typhoon.

Selphie and Squall
Yep, Selphie attacked again. Squall looks a little less accepting of the glomping than Irvine was...

Lulu, Tidus, and Auron
Excellent costumes. We talked to them for awhile, seeing as we're more gamers than anime fans, and it was good to see other people who went to such lengths for what's technically an anime con. And Lulu was just plain creepy, she was so perfect.

a Sailor Starlight
One of the few people there rivalling Müllenkamp for skimpiness!

Utena!
Commentary goes here.

Sailor Mars, Rabi-en-Rose (sorta), and....?
No idea who the person in blue is. But cool costumes! Even if Rabi basically just was the ears and dice, that's good enough for Andrea's rabbit/DGC fixation.

Panda!
Come on, you can't resist Genma-Panda. His board, by the way, was a dry-erase thing - when we saw him, it said "Konnichi-wa" in hiragana and romanji. Later, someone asked him who he was, and we saw him writing out "watashi wa..." Except the people asking apparently didn't know Japanese.

The flower girl!
A few liberties were taken with Aeris' costume, but it's still perfectly recognizable.

Wolfwood!
Well, we got a Vash earlier... Wolfwood couldn't be far behind, could he? And you have to love the portable confessional.

We left somewhat early, around 5-ish, to beat the traffic and get back safely to sleep and spend the entire next day out at Wildwood again... though only after plotting what we might dress as next year, when we may go to Shoujocon, then spend the week in Wildwood, then head to Otakon, seeing as they're pretty much in a straight line. At any rate...

Sunday!
