Part 9: Pinwhelia Meeting (PG)

It's an extremely grey and dreary morning outside of Pinwhelia Castle, and even the kitchen is silent from its usual morning activity. In fact, it's now past noon and hardly anyone has emerged from their rooms. Flik is standing alone on the roof in the drizzle, and refuses to tell anyone why he looks so morose. Kit has locked herself into her room, and even Marie and Selphie seem down. it's a far cry from yesterday, and no one seems to know why.

In frustration, Bastian emerges from his study and calls a mandatory castle meeting, forcing all residents to come down to the fire room to find out what's going on.

"I am calling this meeting to order," he snapped in his usual English accent, trying to mask his worry with anger. "Terra, will you please call role?"

"Kitarin Amaris, otherwise known as Sara, or sometimes Sailor Moon -"

Bastian waved a hand to cut Terra off and glared at Kit. "De-transform now, Kitty, we don't have time for this."

Kit did as her turtle requested and let the Sailor Moon facade fade into her usual sky blue dress. She curled herself into a ball in a chair beside the fireplace occassionally flicking her hand at it to create coloured sparks to amuse Milo.

"Terra Brandford, that's me..." Terra continued after Bastian had waved an arm at her. "Astala Chanlder?"

The girl with the waist length dark hair, seated at Marie's feet, rolled her eyes at Terra and picked the grey cat up off the floor to cuddle her.

"I'll take that as a here..." Terra continued with a mumble. "Bastian Crystalia, of course...Cecelia Elnoral?"

"She's the onyl one excused," Bastian cut in. "She's tending to WTC candles in the chapel."

Terra nodded. "Aerith came in with me...Marie Larson..."

"I'm here," Marie said, taking her own notes on the meeting in a sky blue spiral notebook. "And there's cookies in the tin being passed around..."

"Flik Lightning..."

The swordsman raised his hand silently from where he had pressed himself into a corner of the room, his grey turtleneck and dark blue jeans practically making him one with the shadows.

"Sydney Losstarot...?" Terra looked over at Bastian worriedly, but before the turtle could reply, a bright flash of light in the center of the room signaled his arrival.

He looked down his nose at the attendance taker and the turtle. "I do not appreciate being summoned to meetings last minute. I do have another life outside this castle and its petty concerns." he stalked across the room to sit down in a chair next to where Flik stood in stoic silence.

"Sylvia Skytt," Terra said, trying to keep the wince out of her voice.

"Here though I'd rather be elsewhere and this meeting is stupid and pointless."

"Ah...yes...umm..." Terra replied, checking her off. "Selphie Tilmitt?"

Selphie waved her hands widly from her palce in front of the fire, nearly sending the ball of yarn she and Milo were playing with into the flames. "I'm right here!" she chirped, the only one in the group still smiling.

"Citan Uzuki...?" Terra asked, not recognizing the name.

"Oh, that's right," Bastian added. "He's also excused...he's working on soem castle scheduling conflicts and general paperwork."

"And Leilani and Milo VonDuring are here," Terra finally finished, checking the last two names off.

"Then we may begin," Bastian said with a huff. "Now, I would like to know what the bloody hell is going on around here!"

The room was silent, as it was extremely rare that Bastian ever used such language, even when he was agitated. Finally, Marie raised her hand and Bastian nodded to her.

"I think the emotional duress of the past month is finally taking its toll on everyone," she commented softly.

"I, for one," Syl snapped, glaring around the room, "Am sick of all the bulltshit."

"Perhaps you'd like to elaborate for Mr. Turtle," Sydney smirked, folding his claws gracefully across his chest.

"All of it," Syl snapped, also crossing her arms over her chest. "I'm sick of this whole lonely broken hearted blah blah garbage. I'm sick of Terra and Marie constantly obsessing over school, sick of Kitty being so absolutely moody, and really damn sick of that twit and the furballs trying to cheer everyone up. IT'S NOT WORKING MORONS!"

"Well it's not like you're making things any better," Selphie huffed.

"Oh shut up, fluff for brains," she replied and Sydney snickered again. Flik sighed and gazed morosely out the window as the rain started to coem down.

"Enough," Bastian sighed. "I know very well that we all don't always get along. But jsut yesterday morning, nearly everyone was in good spirits, and then suddenly today you all look positively morose again. Is it the weather?"

"It's the time of year, Bastian," Kit finally spoke up, lifting her head from where it had been pillowed on her arms. "This time of year gets a lot of us down. You know there's a couple days/weeks a year where old memories jsut don't die."

"Yeah, Kit and Marie's birthday has been utterly frustrating and depressing for years," Aerith commented softly.

"There's also the car accident day, Daniel's death day, and the 13th of every month," Syl started to tick off on her fingers.

"Those aren't as bad as they used to be, Syl," Flik snapped at her from his corner. "It's always the birthday and the New Year that's been the worst."

"But what is the problem?" Bastian said, throwing his hands up in exasperation. "You are getting to go home, Kit, even if not for a few weeks. Terra, how are finances right now?"

"Actually, better than we ahd hoped," she said, flipping through some papers. "Irk told us that he'd simply hang onto the DSL stuff so we don't need to pay for that, and parents' money for October came in...once we get the rent and the power bill taken care of, and make sure all the checks clear, we can write a check home and then figure out what's left for the computer and such. And Kit, please rememebr to go pay for the chorale dress sometime soon?"

"It just sucks," Astala muttered. "That it's birthday and we're not getting anything we want."

"Life is never fair, Astala," Sydney remarked with a shrug and several others nodded.

"We are getting a new computer, and Citan is working on the paperowrk and arrangements for that. You know Michi will have a present and a hug for you," Bastian added more kindly to the group.

"I just want some peace of mind..." Kit said softly.

"I understand that, Kit," Flik nodded. "Patience is a virtue."

"One we've excelled in, but we're running out of," Marie pointed out.

"Patience for what?" said Astala. "I just want that American Girls doll and the new Dar Williams Live CD!"

"Ooo...don't forget that Sir Billy's CD comes out the 2nd," Selphie added, grabbing a handful of cookies from the tin as it got to her.

"Patience with school, with SAI, and msotly with Rian," Marie answered. "I know Kit's upset about what he said last night."

"It was still awful sweet of him to call you, Kitty," Aerith said, reaching over to pat her hand.

"Yeah, only after I flamed him over email," Syl smirked.

"What did he say anyways?" asked Selphie.

"He's so funny," Milo giggled, waggling his tail. "He makes me laugh so hard! We talking about yomama some more, and umm....food shopping. I don't remember."

"He said that either I let him make the decision, or I make the decision for him." Kit snapped, flicking her hands and making the flames jump higher inot the air.

"Isn't the decision made already?" said Sydney with a dubiosu expression.

"Logically and emotionally, yes," Flik replied. "Morally? Maybe halfway."

"And what is this about SAI?" asked bastian.

"Stupid Assholic Ignorants?" Syl chimed.

"Have a NICE TALL GLASS SYL" Kit glared at her from the corner.

"Musical troubles," Marie supplied. "I'm working on it, and hopefully some of it will be resolved this weekend at rehearsal. Flik, I could use your help with the America the Beautiful arrangement."

"Of course, Marie..."

The room fell silent for a mometn and Bastian sighed. "What else?"

"Gotta keep the faith..." Milo supplied.

"Love and peace!" Selphie chimed, clapping her hands. "Let's sing a song!"

"Oh Gods," Syl moaned, burying her face in her hands.

"That does always cheer everyone up," Marie agreed. "There isn't anything we can do besides have faith and patience - with school, parents, finances, associate teaching, going home, SAI, and msot of al Rian."

"I don't think he'll let you down, Kit," said Aerith with a small smile. "If that's any consolation - and Syl, keep your mouth shut, I don't want to hear it."

"Let's sing...."

"Let's sing Sir Billy!" Selphie cried.

I've been livin' for the moment
But I just can't have my way
And I'm afraid to go to sleep
'Cause tomorrow is today

People tell me life is sweeter
But I don't hear what they say
Nothing comes to change my life
So tomorrow is today

I don't care to know the hour
'Cause it's passing anyway
I don't have to see tomorrow
'Cause I saw it yesterday

So I listen for and answer
But the feeling seems to stay
And what's the use of always dreaming
If tomorrow is today

Still I'm waiting for the morning
But it feels so far away
And you don't need the love I'm giving
So tomorrow is today

Oh, my. Goin' to the river
Gonna take a ride and the Lord will deliver me
Make my bed, now I'm gonna lie in it
If you don't come, I'm sure gonna die in it
Too late, too much giving
I've seen a lot of life and I'm damn sick of livin' it
I keep hopin' that you will pass my way

And some day if your dreams are leavin' you
I'll still believe in you

I don't care to know the hour
'Cause it's passing anyway
I don't have to see tomorrow
'Cause I saw it yesterday

Though I'm living and I'm singing
And although my hands still play
Soon enough it will all be over
'Cause tomorrow is today
