From his place out on the balcony, Viktor heard the cheerful humming growing louder again as his friend (should he really call him that anymore, Viktor wondered? Well, they would always be friends, no matter what else they were, he figured) returned with their breakfast. He turned to watch for Flik's arrival, to mark every instant - he hadn't really wanted to let Flik out of his sight for a moment, even to get them something to eat. And with Viktor, that was saying a lot. He didn't have long to wait before a grinning Flik emerged into the light. "Eggs and toast okay?" His eyes had a sparkle in them Viktor hadn't seen for many, many years, since they were quite a bit younger. "Sure," he said, his own grin widening. "Anyone give you any trouble?" "Just Syl." "Eh, that's Syl, I'm not surprised," Viktor commented, dismissing it. "Hey, should we eat out here? The wind's nice," he asked, accepting the plate Flik offered and sitting down on the balcony's railing. At Flik's wary look, he chuckled. "What, you think I'm gonna fall?" "Just be careful," Flik warned him. "I'm in a really good mood this morning, and I wouldn't enjoy cleaning up the mess you'd make if you fell." Viktor gave him a mock gasp. "So cold, Flik! Besides, you're already going to have to do some laundry..." Flik's smile returned. "That's just fine." Leaning forward, he planted a kiss on Viktor's lips before he could lift the forkful of eggs in his hand to them. Somewhat distracted, Viktor decided breakfast could wait for a few moments, and kissed Flik back. "You know," he muttered, "I usually prefer a little meat with my breakfast..." Bending down and cupping his hand around the back of Flik's head, he nibbled teasingly at his friend's slender neck. "Maybe I'll just eat you." Flik laughed and pulled out of the hold Viktor had on him. "Oh, eat your eggs, bear." "If you insist." Standing beside him at the railing, Flik lifted a piece of toast to nibble at it, and Viktor was inspired. "...Though I think maybe I'll have some toast first." The comment seemed innocuous enough, even from Viktor, and so Flik found himself rather startled when Viktor lunged forward, taking one corner of the toast Flik lifted to his mouth between his own teeth playfully. Glaring at him over the slice of bread, Flik narrowed his eyes. "You have your own." "Yours looks more fun," Viktor replied, mumbling around the mouthful of toast and shooting him a grin that was only half-visible. Flik rolled his eyes. "You just don't quit, do you?" Regardless, he laughed lightly as he tugged his breakfast away from Viktor - just as Viktor tugged in the opposite direction. Unfortunately for Viktor, toast was not a suitable material for a tug-of-war, particularly not between two strong swordsmen, and it broke instantly, leaving him off balance and on the verge of falling backwards over the railing he was seated upon. "Holy sh--" With a yelp, Flik dropped the toast and grabbed for Viktor's flailing arm, pulling him back to safety. His heart was beating far too fast as he sighed, looking up at Viktor with exasperation. "...You idiot!" he exclaimed. "Heh, guilty as charged." Viktor didn't outwardly appear too alarmed by the close call, but he slid off the railing sheepishly, and Flik could plainly see that his eyes were a little wider than usual. Astonishingly enough, Viktor had kept his plate perfectly level during the mishap, spilling no food at all - shows where his mind is, Flik thought with a sigh - and he handed Flik his own slice of toast to replace the one Flik had dropped. "Uh... I'll just have eggs today, I guess." Despite his racing heart, Flik suddenly started laughing. "Vik... you never change," he murmured breathlessly. Viktor raised one eyebrow at him. "Is that an observation or an order, Blue Lightning?" "Both." |
