Put together frantically in about a week, when I suddenly found out that I might be able to go to Shoujocon 2002, which would be my first con ever. It was incredibly inexpensive to make, all things considered - the sheer fabric happened to be on sale half-price that weekend, I barely needed any gold fabric, the sheet brass was found at a home improvement store/lumberyard for about $2.50 per sheet, which were about four square feet apiece. The rest of the costume was beads and beading cord that my mom and I already had, a gold belt I sometimes wear to ren faires, a hairband, two bobby pins, and a bunch of brass keyrings found in the jewelry section of a craft store. I didn't have enough time to finish the collar, but it's pretty recognizable as is. So I went off to Shoujocon with Tami, having made Terra's dress for her in another frantic afternoon.

We weren't sure how we could do the Rood, until we got to the con and met up with D and W2 (from Technomancy). We were directed upstairs to the dealers' area, where someone had advertised body painting for a dollar. Lucky me! I'd brought along a print-out of the Rood, just in case, though it was a bit blurry due to being blown up from a small size. Regardless, the artist (seen here in the background) did a very nice job, as you can see.

Just another shot out in front of the fountain at the hotel. By this time, I preferred being out there - the only real problem I had with this costume was the fact that I just about froze to death inside in the air conditioning. Other than that, and the fact I really could stand to gain some weight, I think the costume worked out pretty nicely. I was told later that people were staring at me wherever we went... though possibly not because they recognized the character. At any rate, I got my picture taken a lot, which was fun. A very nice first con experience.
